HMS Drake go down fighting to the Mightly 'O'

HMS Drake's 3 rd fixture of the season was against HMS Ocean which promised to be a good clash and a hard match.  HMS Drake struggled to put out their side from recent matches due to on-going commitments.    The passion of the game was evident from the kick-off as the tackles came in hard and fast. HMS Ocean scored first but HMS Drake soon capitalised and brought the score back to even with an explosive burst of pace and try from NA (AH) (Wiggy) Bennett which was converted by AB (Tom) Ryan.  HT (5-7). HMS Ocean stayed the stronger of the 2 teams and made some quality breaks to secure two more tries taking the final score to 15-7.

Local derbies are often tense and noisy affairs, last weekend's game between Services and Ivybridge was no exception. For most of the game Services were ahead starting with a Matt Anstis penalty, Ivybridge briefly took the lead with a converted try. Services came back with 2 tries the first from prop Niall Stokes the second from Rocky Young the former Ivybridge captain who recently joined Services. Matt Anstis converted both to take Services to a 7-17 lead in the 2 nd half. Ivybridge closed the gap with a try and a penalty, 15-17. Royal Navy Women to face the Australian Services Women

At 2pm on Saturday 27 October at Burnaby Road, Portsmouth the Royal Navy Women (RN(W)) will face the Australian Services Women (ASRU) for their first fixture of the 1012/13 season.  The ASRU are in the UK on tour, during which time they will face each of the single service teams before playing the Combined Services Women in the Remembrance fixture at Virginia Park, home of Caerphilly RFC on Wed 7 Nov (KO 2pm).
