The Royal Navy Senior Rugby side will kick off their 2021-22 season earlier than usual this year with a Friday night visit to Championship side Cornish Pirates on 3 rd  September. It will be the first time that the Royal Navy side has played at the famous Mennaye Field and the Senior Service will hope to make the most of their debut in Penzance. It was the first match for HMS Queen Elizabeth's Women's Rugby Team and it was the first ever women's match for the Cyprus Rugby Federation. As the Royal Navy Flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth made her first port visit to Cypress as part of the Carrier Strike Group deployment 2021, the Ship's Women’s rugby team competed in their first ever competitive matches. The best of 3 series against the Cypriot side 'Spartans', held at AEK Katholiki Stadium, would be the first ever official women’s rugby matches held under the Cyprus Rugby Federation banner. As the Carrier Strike Group continues east during it’s 2021 deployment, HMS Richmond’s Rugby Club were able to enjoy Mediterranean opposition during a port visit to Haifa, Israel.   The ship’s team comprised of 28 mixed experience players were invited to play against a combined opposition picked from local rugby clubs, which included the well-drilled Tel Aviv Rugby Club, and thus the name ‘Israel Barbarians’ was coined!   The Royal Navy side who were playing together for the first time in 2021 were excited by the prospect of playing an international fixture, especially during the global pandemic. As the summer months descend on the UK the Royal Navy Rugby Union is enjoying more than just 7s as the annual RNRU Golf Day returned from a one year hiatus. Held on the Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Mellion International Resort on the 30 th  of June the golf day enabled the RNRU to thank sponsors and friends for their continued support during challenging times. With the event held at one of the finest golf courses in Europe boasting rough terrain with narrow undulating fairways, tight driving lines and plentiful water hazards, the great weather ensured the day was enjoyable and competitive.
