Near Miss for England in Hong Kong

England lost to New Zealand 29 - 17 in the final of the HSBC World Series Sevens and slip to second in the overall standings.  However, the tournament was a personal success for Navy player Cpl Greg Barden (HMNB Portsmouth) who scored 5 tries during the tournament, including one in the final.   The England team now travel to Adelaide, Australia for the 6 th leg of the series.    However, Greg is returning to the UK to join with his Navy colleagues as they prepare to take on the Marine Nationale (French Navy) at Plymouth Albion on Thu 31 night.  Last season the French where worthy winners in the cauldron of Stade Mayol in front of 10,000 partisan Toulo...

HMS Cumberland Ends the Season on a High

  Whilst all 3 of the RN representative sides were in action back in the UK and Ireland. HMS Cumberland RFC were taking to the field for probably the last time. On a short stand off from on tasking in Libya the hosts for this encounter was The Napoli NATO Lions playing under the coach of former Royal Navy Women's coach Dave ‘Beefy' Garner. The venue was Carney Park set inside an old volcano where the wind swirled and the referee, Lt Col Hugh Mudford RM was always going to have his work cut out as the Cumberland players at the end of a long season and, the Lions who were just starting out with a mixture of Nations including some over-enthusiastic Americans.   ...

Navy Senior XV win a 13 try thriller in Manchester

The Royal Navy Senior XV, fresh from a hard fought win in Ireland, was on the road again, this time to Sedgley Park, Manchester to take on the Wooden Spoon Anti-Assassins. The game started in the worst possible way for the Navy as the Spooners went ahead (7-0) after 3 mins and 4 mins later another converted try gave the Spooners a 14-0 lead.  It was only now that the Navy seemed to shake-out from the long coach journey and blast into action.  The response was led by NA (SA) (Aaron) Hunt who crossed the line after a break from the half way which then saw him score the first of his 2 tries (14-5) 13 mins.  This was followed 2 mins later by Skipper for ...

Navy Senior XV Skipper Selected for Barbarians

Dave Pascoe, the Royal Navy scrum-half and Captain, has been selected to represent the Royal Navy as part of the famous ‘Barbarians'  Having played against the famous invitation club on several occasions for the Combined Services in the annual Remembrance Match. The Barbarian side will be coached by former South Africa player and coach Mallett, who guided Italy to a stunning victory over France in the RBS 6 Nations Championship just 9 days ago, will coach the Barbarians in the Mobbs Match (Bedford Blues) 19 Apr and against Richmond 12 Apr.
