The Royal Navy Rugby Union President's XV travelled to the West Country to take on Devonport Services RFC at the Rectory.  Despite limited training time, the President's XV put in a very pleasing performance, running out the winners 26 - 5. Training time as a team before the match was limited but the majority of players arrived in good condition after the Christmas break.  Coach/team manager, Nathan 'Pony' Moore had invited a number of new players along to join in and to benefit from the additional coaching provided to the president's XV.   The team made a strong start, with outside centre, Davies, crossing the line for the first points of the night.  Scrum half Car...

The Royal Navy Eastern Command team will face up to the Royal Marines Command team in the final of the Inverdale Challenge competition on Wednesday 30 January.  Kick-off is at 1900 at Burnaby Road and entry is free so come along and cheer on your team. The Inverdale Challenge competition sees the Command Teams representing RN East, RN West, RN North, the Royal Marines and the Fleet Air Arm, take part in a round-robin competition throughout the Autumn.  Five points are awarded for a win, plus a bonus point for number of tries scored.  The two teams with the highest points' score at the end of the group stage go through to the final.   The Royal Marines are no strange...

The Royal Navy Rugby Union Women got off to a fantastic start to 2019 with victory against Ellingham and Ringwood Ladies at the home of Royal Navy Sport. The Royal Navy Rugby Union Women played their first match of the season against Ellingham and Ringwood at HMS Temeraire  on the 4G pitch.  26 players had attended the Rugby training camp held at HMS Collingwood, thereby providing the training team with many options for team selection.   The game started with Ellingham and Ringwood Ladies launching a hard attack on the Royal Navy.  Some fantastic defending prevented the visitors from scoring.  Turning over the ball, the Royal Navy were able to quickly launch a...

Peter Cunningham – the RNRU mourns a dedicated player, referee and friend

Peter Cunningham’s funeral and memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church in Alverstoke at 1400 on Thursday 10 January 2019. Peter requested that his male friends wore “no black ties – just happy ties” for the service to commemorate his life.   Attendance at the Crematorium is by invitation only for very close friends.  It will be a “no flowers event” but donations in Peter’s memory can be made to Christian Concern, 70 Wimpole Street, London.
