A Covid-19 charity raising challenge, for NHS Charities Together, by a Navy Referee was paused due to the impact of Covid but after over 800 miles and a cumulative climb of over 8000m all Hampshire affiliated rugby clubs have now been visited with over £800 raised for charity. There have been many innovative ways of keeping fit whilst furloughed.  Also, there have been many remarkable charity challenges.  For Navy Referee, Si Aldridge, the idea was to combine both and raise money for NHS Charities Together by cycling to every rugby club that is affiliated to Hampshire Rugby Union from his Gosport home.  He would also include visits to the Army and Royal Navy Rugby...

The Royal Navy Rugby Union is delighted to welcome former First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Philip Jones GCB DL, as their newest Life Member. Admiral Jones became President of the RNRU in 2012 having taken over from Admiral Sir Trevor Soar. A highly committed president, he handed over to Vice Admiral Ben Key CBE in June 2017 after five years in the role and immediately after presiding over the extraordinary celebrations organised to mark the 100th Army v Navy match. Former Navy Player Sets World Endurance Record

Former Royal Marine, and Royal Navy player, Jack Fleckney, last month set a new endurance record for his age category on the SkiErg machine.  The new record stands at 283,131m in 24 hours and the successful record attempt has raised £7199 for the Northampton Saints Foundation. After 4 years in the Royal Marines, which saw him win 6 caps for the Royal Navy Rugby Union, Jack Fleckney left the Corps to return to his Northamptonshire roots to set up a gym and focus on his cross-fit aims.  In just over 5 years from his first gym opening he now runs a company with its own franchises, rose to number 12 in the Mens UK Cross Fit ranking and has now broken the 24-hour SkiErg end...

The RNRU are looking to appoint a suitably qualified, passionate and committed individual, who has experience of coaching the full 15 aside game, to the RNRU(W) Coaching Team.  This is a voluntary position. The individual should possess or be working towards a Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Rugby Union or a similar qualification. Playing experience, would be highly desirable, especially in a backs position, but coaching experience and philosophy is the priority.
