BOGOF win for Cumberland

After three months at sea, HMS Cumberland's rugby team finally returned to playing rugby during their recent visit to Dubai. First up was a match against the Dubai Potbellies. With young centre Dale Sleeman away from the ship with the Senior XV (preparing for Commonwealth Cup 2009) former U23 centre and recently joined AWEO (Adam Newnes) filled the 12 birth and provided the running legs for the aging Sibbo at Fly Half. However it was Dave's kicking skills which fashioned Cumberland's first score. Looking Forward, Remembering Our Past With the 2009 Babcock Commonwealth Cup looming large next month, Navy Rugby’s Senior XV kicks off a longer than usual season with a game against a Cornwall Select XV. The game will be played at Hayle RFC on Wednesday 23rd September; kick off 19:30. It promises to be a poignant evening for a number of reasons. It will be the first time the two sides have met since the fateful evening at the Rectory and the tragic loss of Mne Craig ‘Hodgie’ Hodgkinson in November 2006 on the eve of his 27th birthday.
