Sam Halofaki’s teammates have recognised his contribution to the Mariners cause this year with the award of the Mike Connolly Trophy.  In only its second year the Mike Connolly award is presented to the player who has made the most impact throughout the season and is named after former Mariner coach and Heart of Oak inductee, Mike Connolly . Another small chapter in the long and distinguished history of the Royal Navy Rugby Union was written on Saturday when, for the first time, the Union awarded caps to the Mariners XV.  Wilf Rees holds the distinction of being the first capped Mariner, a second first for him as he was also the inaugural recipient of the Mike Connolly Trophy.  Paul Clark, the Mariners playing Head Coach also notched up a first, being the first player to be capped by the Union in two different categories, having been capped at Senior level in 2003. The RNRU Annual 7’s competition will be held at Weymouth RFC, Dorset, DT3 5HZ on Wed 11 Jun 14. Each Establishment/Ship/Unit may enter a maximum of 2 teams; there will be no entry charge, however, please do not commit if you are not 100% certain of attending. It is up to you to support this major event and ensure that it is a success. Cossack Sword - Matt Harvey Voted Players ’Player of the Year'

For the first time since former Selector, Captain Leigh Merrick, presented it to the Royal Navy Rugby Union, a player has won the Cossack Sword in his first season of representative rugby.  Matt Harvey was voted by the Senior XV squad as the player’s player of the year and succeeds Dom Taylor as the Cossack Sword holder.  The Cossack Sword was presented to the Royal Navy Rugby Union by former player and selector, Leigh Merrick and first awarded in 2000.  The sword is for “Ground Gained and Held” and is awarded at the end of each season to the player, from the Royal Navy Senior XV, whose performances over the course of the season best meet the battling qua...
