THRILLER IN ALDERSHOT LEAVES NAVY U23 WAITING

There were many who though the Friday night's game between the Army U23 and the Royal Navy U23 would have been cancelled as the horrendous weather of the previous days would see many of the weekend's games cancelled. However, the Army RFU home ground at Aldershot looked in excellent condition. Having seen-off the RAF the week before in a thrilling game in Portsmouth, the Royal Navy hoped tonight's fixture would be the deciding game of the 2012 U23 Inter Service Championship. Following victory over their RAF counterparts in a tense game at Burnaby Road last Friday, the focus of the Royal Navy U23 Inter Service campaign now shifts to Aldershot for the second round of the competition this coming Friday, the 23November KO 7.30pm. The Aldershot stadium has proved a happy hunting ground for the Navy U23s in recent history. The corresponding fixture between the two sides in the 2010 Inter Service Championship saw the Navy triumph in a hard fought contest, running out 20-18 winners against a physical and combative Army U23 XV. RNRU NAMES NEW HEAD COACH FOR THE 2012/13 SEASON

The Royal Navy Rugby Union has named a new head coach to lead them into the 2012/13 Season. POAET (Owen) Salmon (845 Sqn), who is presently deployed, will take over from CPO (Ash) Coates (HMNB Portsmouth) upon his return. RNRU Director of Rugby, Cdr (Andy) Kellett RN said of Ash Coates "Ash has been Head Coach for 2 years and Senior XV Technical Analyst prior to that. His ability to highlight the key aspects of a team's performance was honed during the time he spent working as a game analyst with Premiership Clubs. Throughout Geraint's long association with the RNRU he has drawn upon his knowledge and experience and proven himself an accomplished administrator, firm leader, rugby tactician and has inspired those around him to perform to their optimum level. His personal sacrifice, commitment and dedication cannot be faulted and his distinctive accomplishments reflect great credit upon himself and the Service. Personal courage, strength of character and an absolute determination are his hallmarks and for his outstanding display of professionalism in the game and for his contribution to the RNRU over many years, Geraint has been elected as a Life Member of the Royal Navy Rugby Union.

Lt (Chris) Roberts RN has had a long affiliation with the Royal Navy Rugby Union and was recently the Tour Manger of the successful Royal Navy Commonwealth Cup winning squad. Chris will take over from Lt (Glen) Miller RN who will be leaving the RN in the New Year.
