HMS Nelson Volunteer Band welcomed the teams to the pitch in Portsmouth this evening in Round 1 of the 2012 U23 Inter Service Championship.  As former RAF player Nicki O'Donnell in the middle tonight started the game it was always going to be an interesting affair. The greasy ball caused the Navy some difficulties as they knocked-on from the kick off. Recently United Services Portsmouth received the prestigious RFU Club Accreditation Award for all levels Senior' s, Junior's and Women. The award has been set up to provide a framework to help clubs become stronger, more effective, and more efficient and more enjoyable places to play rugby union. It assesses the club on areas such as retaining and developing players, recruiting and keeping new players, high-quality coaches, volunteers and referees, effective facilities, management and integration with the local community. United Services Youth Experience Twickenham England v Fiji Saturday 10th Nov

The United Service Portsmouth Rugby Club, mini, midi and youth sections took 4 coach loads of players, coaches, referees and parents to Twickenham for the England v Fiji match. This was the clubs way of saying ‘thank you' for the hard work and commitment they all put into the club every year. 101 players from 7 to 16 years of age where paid for by the club as were nearly 25 coaches and referees. Their numbers were added to by over 55 parents who paid to come along making this a fantastic club day out, that really captured the spirit of community rugby. 3 Devonport Services players, who came through the Services youth system made their debut for the Royal Navy U23s against Oxford University 2 weeks ago and then played last weekend against Cambridge University at Burnaby Road in Portsmouth.
