RN U23 Provide Good Performance Against Chichester

more

The Royal Navy U23's continued their preparations for the forthcoming Inter-Services campaign with a fixture against a Chichester RFC U23 XV at Burnaby Road on Sunday. With Oxford University unable to play the U23's, Chichester RFC game fully stepped into the frame at short notice to give the Young Navy players a last run out before their first Inter-Services game vs. the RAF Academy. With the home of Navy Rugby basking in weather more akin to a summer's day, the match started with a bang. From the kick off, the Navy quickly gathered the ball in their 22 and fired it out to winger AB (D) (Ben) Wood (Northern Diving Group) who raced down the right wing to score. This quick try was conv...

HMS Dragon bring out the best in Devonport

more

A game played in 4 quarters that was really a tale of two halves that showed HMS Dragon rugby team displaying real passion in only their second game against a well drilled Devonport team. Crisp West Country weather conditions did not keep supporters from both sides turning out to watch this friendly fixture.   The visiting team had a chance to go ahead just 6 minutes into the game after Devonport were penalised for going off their feet at the breakdown but the effort from AB (Bamfs) Bamford was just wide.   The best chance of the quarter came after great pressure in defence from LT (Smudge) Smith forcing the error and allowing AB (Nelly) Nelson to pick up a loose ba...

RN U23 Tough Start to the Season

more

The Royal Navy U23s began preparations for defence of their Interservices title this weekend with a fixture against a lively Cambridge University U23 side at their Grange Road ground. With a firm surface underfoot, the scene was set for a keenly contested match between a young developmental Navy U23 side and their well drilled Cambridge counterparts.  Both sides soon met head on, and with neither wanting to take a backward step, play moved continually back and forward across the half way line as each side sought to find their opponents try line. Cambridge soon succeeded and crossed the Navy line after 15 minutes, capitalising on their opponents being a man down due to injury. Wit...

Community Rugby going from Strength to Strength in Portsmouth

more

HMS SULTAN 13-0 MWS COLLINGWOOD The kick off was scheduled for 1600, on what turned out to be a wet, windy night.  Collingwood won the toss and kicked off with the wind behind them.  The wind and the rain made the ball as slippery as a bar of soap, and Collingwood soon dropped it. Front row newcomer Nick Tacey at hooker, so this was his first test in a live scrum.  He performed very well, winning all his own ball in the scrum.  The game was very evenly matched - both teams were on a par, strength wise.  After 12 mins, Sultan gave away a penalty away just inside the 10m line.  The Collingwood kicker missed - by quite a margin, but, it gave Sultan an i...
