RN Senior XV Return to 'The Rec'

After some time the Royal Navy returns to one of the West Countries most famous grounds The Rec, home of Bath RFC to face a Bath Academy side which is bristling with talent, many of whom have tasted Premiership rugby during this season. HMNB Portsmouth took on HMS York at Clarence Pier in a friendly fixture, as HMS York had 10 players, the decision was made to play a ten's fixture, with HMNB Portsmouth lending 3 players to the York. The fixture was aimed at future recruitment and talent spotting for the HMNB Portsmouth RFU squad. The HMNB Portsmouth team had never played together and the task of organising the team, on the pitch, was led by skipper ET Jones. The team did well to work together and with some experienced players leading from the front, started too gelled well and grew stronger as the game went on. In their first game of the year HMS Dragon displayed attacking flare and defensive strength to walk of the off the pitch comfortable winners in a Cup game played against HMS York.  HMS Dragon started the game strongly and early pressure resulted in an attacking scrum in HMS York's 22m.  A smart dummy and run down the blind side from No 9, AB(CIS) (Owen) Faint allowed No 8, AB(Sea) (Nelly) Nelson, quick ball.  He brushed aside two defenders and crashed over the line for HMS Dragons first try.  The conversion was missed 5-0.  The restart was taken safely by Nelson who then set off on a good run but was eventually forced into touch. RN Women 5 v 15 Trojans

The Navy took to the pitch to face Southampton side, Trojans on 14 March at Burnaby Road.  Under the floodlights, the Navy took the kick off and immediately put pressure on Trojans making ground into the Trojans half.  From a scrum, the Navy continued to pressurise Trojans defensive line and fought to get into the 22.  Trojans won the ball and kicked the ball clear to halfway.  It was Trojans turn to attack the Navy line, but the Navy defended hard with players making some important individual tackles to slow Trojans progress.  From a 5m scrum, the Navy were placed under pressure by Trojans, but again the Navy defence held strong.  However, eventually Tro...

The Royal Navy Senior XV renewed its rivalry with the Irish Defence Forces (IDF) on Thursday 15 th March at United Services Sports Ground, Burnaby Rd, Portsmouth. This was the twelfth meeting of the two sides, the first being in 2002 at London Welsh. The overall series stood at 7 - 3 to the Royal Navy, with the home side being the current holders of the trophy after a win in Cork last season. Results aside, this encounter has been notable for the closeness and competitiveness of the games.
