2 More RFU Accredited Coach Eductors for the Navy

WO Ian Smith (HMS Heron) pictured and CPO Simon Burns (HMS MIDDLETON) have recently gained accreditation from the RFU as Coach Educators. Having undertaken the RFU Coach Educators course in Jul 2007, Ian & Simon have supported the RNRU's coaching development programme in between deployments to the Untied States and the Arabian Gulf respectively. Navy stalwart Simon says 'I've been involved as a player for the past fifteen years, it is really rewarding to put something back into the community game; delivering on these RFU courses allows me to pass some of my coaching and playing experience onto others' Level 1 & 2 courses are run by the RN RDO throughout the year. Community Coaching is Back!

The RNRU Community Coaches visited HMS COLLINGWOOD this afternoon to deliver the first of six sessions to be delivered across the Naval Service which are aimed at introducing, (and in some cases re-introducing!) young sailors to rugby. Over 80 Phase 2 Trainees were given instruction by the Community Coaches who included Leading Physical Trainers Morrison, McKenna, Buffery, West, Gibbs and Phillips; all of which have recently completed either an RFU TAG Rugby or RFU Level 1 coaching qualifictaion They readily grasped this opprtunity to hone their newly found coaching skills; LPT Gibbs stated 'It's a great opportunity for me to utilise my coaching qualification and develop a will to win at...

Navy centre, Cpl Greg Barden, has retained his place in the England Sevens squads for legs three and four of the iRB World Sevens Series. The full press release from the RFU is as follows: Charlie Simpson-Daniel (Gloucester Rugby) is following in the footsteps of brother James after being called up to the England Sevens Squad for Wellington and San Diego (Feb 6-15). James, one of four Simpson-Daniel brothers, was a Hong Kong Sevens finalist in 2002 before making the step up to the senior England team. Representative Recognition for Charlie Lewis

AB (Logs) (Pers) Charlie Lewis, HMS Neptune, has been selected to represent the RFUW North East Regional Rugby side. This is the first step up on the RFUW's senior representative ladder. Though now playing her rugby for Hillhead Jordanhill RFC in Glasgow, Charlie qualifies for the North East due to her upbringing in Darlington and her English mother. Her Scottish father has remained silent on the issue! Though keen to see how far her rugby may take her, Charlie remains fiercely committed to the RN(W) cause and has quickly established herself as a key member of the Navy Squad where she plays on the wing. RN(W)'s Christmas Cracker

Members of the RN Women's team recently had a run ashore to watch the Bath v Sale match on 20 December at the Recreation Ground, Bath. The idea came from former RN(W) coach, and now Bath Team Manager, Dave Guyan who also managed to take time out of his match day schedule to act as host. The game turned out to be an absolute cracker with Bath not securing victory unitl stoppage time and with Sale's Sebastion Chabal playing the part of pre-Christmas panotmine villian. More importantly it proved an excellent opportunity for the RN(W) to watch some top flight rugby and to hopefully learn some lessons that they can take forward in to 2009.
