It won’t just be sailors and airmen on HMS Queen Elizabeth heading to the other side of the world as RNAS Culdrose’s Logs (SC) Sam Matavesi has been selected in the Fiji squad of 33 players to travel to New Zealand for two Tests in July. The 29-year-old, who grew up in Cornwall and now plays for Northampton Saints, will hope to add to his 15 Fijian Test caps against the All Blacks on July 10 and 17 in Dunedin and Hamilton respectively. He and the rest of the players and management traveling to New Zealand will be in quarantine for 14 days in Christchurch, before being cleared to train as a group. Doc Cox, UK Armed Forces Director of Rugby, Former RNRU Player, U23 DoR and Senior coach, will be taking on an epic 840km cycle from Glasgow to London in just 10 days to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and NHS Charities Together. Lt Cdr Doc Cox, alongside his team which includes Nathan ‘Pony’ Moore, will be travelling 840km from Glasgow SEC (NHS Louisa Jordan) to the NHS Nightingale Hospital at the Excel in London, to raise money for SSAFA and NHS Charities Together. The temperature is rising and the ground is getting firmer and it can mean only one thing! Sevens season is upon us!   The two Men’s Royal Navy Rugby Union Sevens sides, the Sharks and the Stingrays, have been taking part in a 5 week training camp at Fort Blockhouse to prepare them for their three scheduled tournaments this summer. The sides faced off against each other on the 9 th  of June on a dry HMS Sultan pitch in a heated match where the coaches were able to assess some of their newer players in a game scenario. RNAS Culdrose’s Sam Matavesi signs contract extension with Northampton Saints

Northampton Saints have announced that RNAS Culdrose’s Fiji international Logs (SC) Sam Matavesi has signed a contract extension to remain at Franklin’s Gardens. The 29-year-old has made 27 appearances and scored three tries in Black, Green and Gold to date after joining the Club from Championship outfit Cornish Pirates in December 2019.
