Following hot on the heels of the single service senior sides the UK Armed Forces Rugby Men's Under 23s make their season debut this weekend in West London against Ealing Trailfinders Academy and the Royal Navy makes up over a third of the squad. With their Inter Service Championship concluding in December the Under 23 season has moved onto the single services coming together to form the UK Armed Forces (UKAF) side for their first match since May 2019. The Royal Navy Senior Men XV kick off their season with a visit to National 1 side Taunton RFC. The senior XV have already had an outing this season after taking on Cornish Pirates in September but the match against Taunton marks the RN's traditional February start as they build up towards the Inter Service Championship and their annual encounter with the Army at Twickenham. Taunton have been making excellent progress as a club and have established themselves as a steady National 1 side, having recently been promoted from National 2 South. The elder statesmen of the Royal Navy Rugby Union playing cadre, the Royal Navy Mariners, had their second (hastily re-arranged) match of the season. Gosport and Fareham RFC were the stand-in opponents as Northampton Police Service regrettably had to withdraw.    Two unanswered and fast tries from Gosport and Fareham caught the slow starting Mariners on the back foot and at 12-0 things looked ominous for the Royal Navy.
