RN Senior XV Squad Named for the Babcock Trophy

The 2012 season saw a young RN Senior XV Team start the training camp at HMS Sultan. The youth of this squad was borne out by 11 new caps being awarded so far this season.  Wins over the Varsity teams, Oxford and Cambridge, for the first time in the same season for 25 years added to a record win over the Irish Defence Forces. This provided proof to the coaching team that the new players had acquitted themselves well at the senior representative level.  Many of the U23s have 'Stood Up' and been blooded at senior level, including 10 players from the U23 Inter Service winning team of 2010 who have now worn a Royal Navy Senior XV shirt.  However, tough games against the ...

On Sat 28 Apr at Kneller Hall Kick-Off 1030, the RN Women will be taking on the Army Women in the deciding match of the 2012 Inter-Services Competition.  Historically, the Army Women have come out on top; however, the Navy are feeling confident following an excellent performance against the RAF last week.  If the Navy Women can show the same grit and determination against the Army that they did in the second half against the RAF, then the game should be an exciting display of Women's rugby. RN Mariners aim for 2012 Inter Service victory over Army Masters

The Royal Navy Mariners on Saturday will find themselves in the same position as last year, having dispatched a difficult opponent in the RAF the only team who could stop them from claiming the Inter Service Trophy was the Army Masters. It was a difficult day as the Mariners did everything that there Head Coach Lt (Mick) Connelly asked of them. However, it was not enough as the Masters ran out winners 22-9. On Wed 18 Apr at Burnaby Road, the RN Women beat the RAF Women for only the 4 th time in their history.  It was a tightly contested match with both sides battling hard in tough weather conditions.  The RN were forced to make a last minute change to the starting line up with LET(WE) (Vicky) Thomas (SFM Portsmouth) being unable to start due to injury.  This gave DSA (Bonnie) Brown (42 Cdo RM) a starting place on the wing.  The RAF kicked off and from the start it was clear that the match was going to be won and lost in the forwards.  There was good initial pressure by the RN forwards, however a couple of mistakes did lead to turn over ball.  Fortunately...
