Penryn Runners Up & Navy 7's Champions - Next stop Manchester

PENRYN 7’S RNAS Culdrose entered two teams into this annual tournament held at Penryn RFC. The teams are known as the Seahawk Islanders and the Flying Hawks. The players began the day in high spirits setting up camp next to the pitch preparing them for the day ahead. The players WAGS helped with the BBQ and providing a friendly atmosphere. A total of 16 teams entered the competition and the guys new it would be tough day. The Seahawk Islanders started off well and went to win their pool conceding only 1 try and scoring nearly 30 tries. SEAHAWK IN SEVENTH HEAVEN

HMS SEAHAWK won a pulsating final of the RN 7's defeating HMS Ark Royal at HMS Raleigh. Teams from across the Naval Service descended on a quiet corner of Cornwall to battle it out for the honour of being the 7's champions for the 2008-09 season. Pool A consisted of HMS Raleigh, a team made up entirely of Phase 2 Trainees, RM Poole, HMS CHATHAM and eventual winners HMS Seahawk. Seahawk dominated the group with RM Poole progressed to the Quarter Finals leaving HMS Raleigh to narrowly miss out on qualifying for the quarter finals as the best 3rd placed team from the Pool stage. 7's is Back!

HMS Raleigh will be hosting the RN 7's tournament on Wednesday 13 May 2009. Teams from across the Royal Navy will be in attendance including HM Ships ARK ROYAL, MONTROSE, NORTHUMBERLAND, ALBION, CHATHAM & LIVERPOOL. The Fleet Air Arm, celebrating 100 Years of Naval Avaiation, will be represented by HMS Heron and HMS Seahawk. Navy stalwart LPT Jamie Caruana has reinvigorated rugby within RNAS Culdrose since his qualification as a PTI last summer and will be looking to add to the Navy Cup Plate they won earlier this season.
