RNRU(W) CYPRUS INTERNATIONAL FLOODLIGHT 10s RUGBY COMPETITION

This was to be the RNRU(W) first tour outside the UK since the Navy Women were formed 8 years ago writes Cdr Paula Rowe, AD RNRU(W). The squad was entered into the Cyprus 10s, with the blessing of the RNRU and support from the Sports Lottery and RNWSO. The team gathered at HMS COLLINGWOOD on Sat 26 May to start training in preparation for the competition. The team seemed to grasp the concept of what 10s rugby was all about, off loading in the tackle, support, not committing too many players to the break down and a hard-faced defence. Sharks First Bite in Benidorm

The Royal Navy Sharks Rugby 7s team has just competed for the first time in the Benidorm 7’s Tournament writes WO1 Don Shaw, Team Manager. The Benidorm 7s is a very well run popular event on the 7s circuit. The Tournament is hosted by La Villa Rugby Club in its beautiful new stadium in a place called Villajoyosa 8 kilometres outside Benidorm. The Royal Navy Sharks were honoured to be invited to compete in the International Selections Tournament. Teams from all over the world competed including Stellenbosch University Rugby Football Club the second oldest rugby club in South Africa.
