RNRU u23s Weather a Perfect Storm in Kernow

The Royal Navy Rugby union have a strong relationship with Cornwall Rugby, from Lieutenant Chris Alcock RN who captained the Cornwall team to County Championship success in 1991, to the likes of Sam Matevesi, Ben Priddey and Ed Pasco in latter years. It’s fantastic to get this fixture back on the calendar and a big thank you to Cornwall Rugby and Hayle RFC for hosting the game. For the youngsters who have pulled on their representative shirt for the first time, it will have been quite the experience. CRFU President John Sumnall said before the game, “It is great to get this year’s county rugby kicked off with this prestigious fixture against the Royal Navy U23. We th...

Archers Pull the Strings against the RN u23s

The Royal Navy u23s were delighted to be back in Wales again, playing a match against a tough team and regular opponent.  If bookies were involved and based on previous encounters this match, on form, was always going to be a close affair. Arriving with a larger than normal squad gave the coaches an opportunity to run out more combinations and give everyone a fair crack of the whip. Cardiff Met have a staggering 400 men registered to play so their strength in depth is considerable. The RN started cold with Cardiff Met scoring from their first attack having quickly established continuity and go-forward. An inevitable tug-of-war attrition phase followed with neither team being able...

HMS Queen Elizabeth Suffered the Blues in Norfolk

HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH (QNLZ) arrived in Norfolk, VA following an unexpected Atlantic Ocean crossing. The Ship’s Rugby Team rolled straight into a first night fixture against a local club, Norfolk Blues RFC. The Fleet Flagship had been at sea for the duration of the Nation’s mourning period and with the first opportunity to honour the passing of the late sovereign, the team wore black armbands to commemorate the Ship’s Sponsor and a minute’s silence was poignantly observed by both teams prior to kick off. Due to the Ship deploying on completion of summer leave, the team were disadvantaged by a lack of preparation, and this was evident in the early phases of the g...
