In the glorious sunshine at Twickenham the 101st encounter between the Royal Navy Rugby Union and the Army Rugby Union went the way of the Army.  After the early dismissal of the Navy flanker, Sam Matavesi, the under strength Navy team put in a valiant performance losing out 22 - 14 to their Army colleagues. A determined performance from the Royal Navy Rugby Union Women as the Army secures the 2018 Inter Services Championship at Kneller Hall. A large crowd gathered at Kneller Hall to watch the Army Women and Royal Navy Rugby Union Women in the final game of the 2018 Women’s Inter Service championship. The final score of 72 - 3 suggests Army dominance, however the Royal Navy Women played with spirit and determination to halt the Army’s onslaught. A hotly contested clash between Masters and Mariners

A balmy morning at Kneller Hall provided the setting for what would be a hotly contested game of high-tempo rugby. Dane Smallbone kicked off for the Royal Navy and the first scrum was awarded to the Mariners for a knock forward. The ball was passed out to the Masters’ wing but another fumble led to the first scrum Mariners’ put-in. The ball was passed out quickly to the Mariners’ centre with Ollie James taking on the charge into a passage of loose play resulting in turn-over ball for the Masters. A repeated sequence which would come to dominate the game followed and saw the ball pass between the hands of the Masters’ three-quarters for the first try of the match. ...

The Royal Navy Rugby Union Women's final match of the season is played against the Army Women.   Afterwards the coveted 'Roger Sherratt trophy' is awarded to the player who is deemed to be the most valuable player of the Women's squad throughout the season.   This season, team captain Sam Alderson is the worthy recipient.  The trophy is awarded in memory of Mr Roger Sherratt who was the first benefactor of the Royal Navy Women's team.   Roger became involved with the Navy Women's team when his daughter Clare was playing for the team, and she later took on the role of assistant team manager.   The Royal Navy Women's team remain indebted to the stron...

Exciting future ahead for Scott Makepeace

Scott Makepeace has joined a select group of Royal Navy Rugby Union players, having been chosen as the 2018 recipient of the 'Proud Heritage, Exciting Future' trophy.   Previous winners of the award include RNRU teammates scrum half, Gareth Rees; flanker, Jarrard Hayler; and lock, Edd Pascoe.   Scott first got involved in Navy Rugby as part of the 2016/17 U23 Inter Service winning team.  His strong performance with the team led to his subsequent selection for the Senior XV training camp later in the season.  He had to carefully balance the requirements of his Phase Two training as an air engineering technician with his commitment to the physical demand...
