ROYAL MARINES NAME SQUAD FOR THE FOURTH CHARITY MEDICS RUGBY CHALLENGE

On Tuesday 6 Nov the fourth Medics Rugby Challenge will kick-off, this has become an annual event in support of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund , which exists to maintain the efficiency and 'esprit de corps' of the Royal Marines and to provide benevolence support for those in need. The first match in 2009 was a draw. The Medics clinched a narrow but well deserved victory in 2010. Last year, when 3 Commando Brigade had just returned from Afghanistan, the Medics were put to the sword. Royal Navy U23 v Cambridge University LX

This Sunday (04 Nov 12), will see the U23s host Cambridge University at Burnaby Road, kicking off at 2.15pm. This is a vital game as it is the last chance for the squad to play prior to the 2012 Inter-Services Championship. There are a number of players returning from either injury or unavailability, these including Mne (Josh) Terry (RM Poole) and Mne (Scott) Puleston (30 Cdo IX Gp). The weekend will start early for the squad as training commences on Friday afternoon at HMS Sultan and will continue throughout Saturday. As Devonport Service welcomed Mrs Mo Jackson, the new Devon RFU President to view what would be a tightly fought game. Kingsbridge started with 2 penalties to go 0-6 up, but then Services came back at speed with a penalty by Matt Anstis, then with a Pete Farrow try which was converted by Matt, another Anstis penalty followed an Oz Flowers unconverted try 18-6 up.  Services defence then went to sleep and allow Kingsbridge to get back into the game 18-20 (HT).
