Navy Over Power RAF in Third Quarter

A solitary try from fullback Rhys Dimmock-Williams did not look enough reward after a first half playing with a strong wind on their backs.  However a third quarter that saw the Royal Navy pack take the game to the RAF with some fired up driving play and tries from scrum half Gareth John Rees and winger Rory Penfold ensured the Navy U23 XV could leave RAF Halton with a comfortable win securely under their belts.  The Army U23 XV is next, at USSG Portsmouth, on Wednesday and another win would deliver a long awaited Inter Service title. The opening match in the 2015 Inter Services U23 Championship saw the Royal Navy travel to RAF Halton buoyed by a good build up throughout a s...

Loydall Leads RN in Inter Service Opener

Greg Loydall will lead the team out, later today, at RAF Halton, for the opening match in the 2015 U23 Inter Services Championship.  Along with Harrison Marsh and Rory Penfold he is one of only three players who started in last year’s match in a much changed Royal Navy squad.  There are two further returnees on the bench in Ben Roberts and Luke Cooper, whose two tries last season, helped secure the 24-20 win. Up front Harrison Marsh is joined in the front row by Mark Dowds and Chris Robinson.  Ben Watson gets the nod over Alex Cragg to partner Dan Mason in the second row with Cragg being joined on the bench by front row cover in Sam Norton, Isaac Salt and Chris Be...

Charlie Fredrickson Represents UK Armed Forces (W) in Remembrance Match

With 15 mins to go in the annual Remembrance Match between the United Kingdom Armed Forces Rugby Union (Armed Forces) Women and the Cardiff Blues Welsh Select team at Cardiff Arms Park the score was 12 points to 0 in favour of the Welsh, 2 substitutions were made one of which was the sole Royal Navy representative, Lt Charlotte Fredrickson RN (currently based in PJHQ, Northwood).  Whether it was the appearance of fresh legs or as a direct result of Charlotte’s inclusion in game (no bias at all) the game started to turn in favour of the Armed Forces Women.  With minutes left on the clock, the Armed Forces Women scored a converted try but immediately had to go on the defens...

Welling and Tichias Start for Remembrance Match

Winger Greg Welling and centre Matt Tichias have both been named in the starting XV for the United Kingdom Armed Forces team that will play Bath United in the 2015 Remembrance Match.  They are joined by fullback, Jon Humphrey, and flanker, Jarrard Hayler, who are both named amongst the replacements. Jon Humphrey is the only one of the four who was involved in last season’s match against the Barbarians although Matt Tichias played in the 2013 Remembrance Match and Greg played in the 2012 Remembrance match against Crawshay’s Welsh XV.  If Jarrard comes off the bench it will be his debut for the Armed Forces team and will round off an excellent six months of rugby t...

Congratulations to RNRU(W) Player Charlotte Fredrickson

The RNRU wish to congratulate Lt Charlotte Fredrickson RN (currently based in PJHQ, Northwood) on her selection in the United Kingdom Armed Forces Rugby Union Women’s rugby side in their annual match against Cardiff Blues Women on 7 November 2015 at Cardiff Arms Park. Three other RNRU(W) players, Lt Helen Stevenson (HMS BULWARK), OC Olivia Critchley (DTUS Trojan Sqn) and OC Charlotte Myrans (WALES URNU), were also selected for the initial 29 person squad, but operational commitments and a high level of competition for a place in the final squad for Saturday’s game sees Charlotte shouldering the full RN representative role in the match alone.  RNRU(W) ADoR LtCdr Lynn...
