Injuries Take Gloss off Navy Victory

more

The hard won victory over the Irish Defence Force has come at a cost as the Navy loses yet another lineout forward in their preparation for the 2011 Babcock Inter Service Championship. With Cpl (Damo) Chambers (30 Cdo IX RM) and POAET (Marsh) Cormack (854 NAS, RNAS Culdrose) already deployed they could ill afford to lose lineout specialist Mne (Dennis) Scotthorne (42 Cdo RM) to a dislocated shoulder. He is joined on the injured list by club colleague Mne (Seti) Raumakita (42 Cdo RM) also with a shoulder injury and ET (ME) Jon Marlin (HMS Chatham) with a neck problem. Both Seti and Jon are out for the match this week against Wooden Spooners Anti Assassins but Navy Rugby is hopeful that th...

Royal Navy Senior XV Secure a Win in Ireland

more

The Royal Navy Senior XV travelled to Cork, Ireland to take on the Irish Defence Force in the first of their 2 International fixtures in Mar.   The game started as had many previous fixtures with the sides testing each other out and the Navy knew from the off that this would be yet again another very physical encounter.  It was the Irish who would draw first blood as a well worked move caught the Navy defence napping and the Irish team led by a converted try (12 min 7-0).   The Navy lineout and especially Mne (Dennis) Scotthorne and Capt RM (Stu) McLaren caused the Irish a great deal of problems on their own ball, whist whilst securing some good posse...

Mariners narrowly lose out to Prison Service

more

Fresh from a win over Havant and with the experienced faces of hooker Aggie Weston and scrum-half Ian 'Taff' Jenkins returning to their ranks, the RN Mariners approached the Prison Service match with confidence on a spring-like afternoon at Burnaby Road.  A 1700 kick-off would be followed by a later match, which would pitch the RN Women against Trojans. The first quarter went to the Mariners with the exception of one un-named back who had thought 5pm was the muster time not the kick-off time!!  An early penalty was taken calmly by Joe Ainsley and this was followed by a good passage of handling with the ball moving from a breakdown on the left wing at the Prison Service 22 al...

Esher 34 – Royal Navy 14

more

The Navy continued their preparations for 2011 Inter Services with a hard physical encounter with Esher on Tue night.  Though they will have been disappointed with the result and conceding 4 tries there was amble evidence that the team are progressing in the right direction. The match started with the Navy enjoying the bulk of possession but finding it difficult to break down and well-organised and aggressive Esher defence.  On the couple of occasions that Navy standoff Wayne John (HMS Liverpool) made the half break he was unable to find the pass to maintain continuity.  However despite this bright opening passage the Navy found themselves behind on the scoreboard when Es...
