RN(W) Chairwoman, Lt Cdr Paula Rowe believes Navy Women’s Rugby is going from strength to strength; this Season see’s a new Coaching Team in place with Lt Cdr Colin Nicklas and PO David Garner as Head and Assistant Coach along with CPO Paula Bennett-Smith operating as a Playing Coach. The Team also sees the introduction of PO Faz Farrell as Public Relations Manager, PO Helen Edwards continuing as Team Manager and Ms Wilma Boyington remaining as Physiotherapist with CPO Adrian Smith and NA (SE) Claire Garrett completing the Backroom Staff. The new Coaching Team hopes to encourage and introduce a skilful, attacking style of Play with emphasis on maintaining the ‘Enjoyment, and Want factor’ within the Team. The Season’s preparation’s start with a Squad meet at HMS COLLINGWOOD in early October with the first fixture against Plymouth Albion. The French Navy are next up, followed by a Combined Services fixture against the Barbarians in mid Nov. Exeter University then completes the schedule for 2007. 2008 starts with a bang with Paignton being the first opposition in the New Year. Fixtures against Taunton and Trojans follow providing excellent tests prior to the first Inter Service challenge vs the RAF at Burnaby Road on the 16 Apr. Finally, we see the last fixture of the year and Season, which sees the RNRU (W) up against the Army at Knellar Hall, a game that everyone eagerly awaits year in year out.
