NEW RNRU DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

The RNRU would like to welcome the newest member of the RNRU Executive Committee Cdr Rachel Scandling RN who will take up the post of Director of Communications after this years Army v Royal Navy game at Twickenham. 

Rachel joined the Women's Royal Naval Service in 1987 as a Wren Writer. Following successful selection at the Admiralty Interview Board, she graduated from Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and the Supply School at HMS Raleigh. Her first assignment was as Secretary to Captain Submarine Maintenance in HM Naval Base Clyde before moving back south for ICSC (M) and a two year appointment as a Part III Divisional Officer at HMS Raleigh. A short appointment as the Executive Assistant to Naval Base Commander in Devonport followed before her first complement sea appointment as Secretary HMS INVINCIBLE. Throughout her time in the South West, she indulged her passion for rugby, playing as Fly Half for Devonport Services ‘Sirens'

On successful completion of Professional Command Course in 2005, she became the Logistics Officer onboard HMS RICHMOND. Joining towards the end of a refit and prior to Operational Sea Training in 2006, she spent her final 6 months onboard deployed in the Gulf on oil platform protection duties.

Deploying as an individual augmentee in the Joint Force Support Headquarters based in Bastion, Afghanistan in 2009, she oversaw the co-ordination and prioritisation of the strategic movement of all personnel, equipment and support materiel into and around Theatre in support of Operation HERRICK. On return from Afghanistan, Rachel was selected for promotion to Commander in May 2010.
