HMS Seahawk clinched their first Royal Navy Rugby 7s title in recent years on Wednesday 7th June. Seahawk travelled to Yeovil RFC with a strong side full of 7s experience. Seahawk found themselves in a group with 40 Commando, HMS Somerset and HMNB Clyde. The management had a tough choice of who to select for the first game and decided to start strong. First up for the air men was 40 Commando who had a very direct style of play. LPT Priddey found himself on the wrong side of the bounce of the ball as he ended up on his back much to the delight of the crowd. HMS MONMOUTH’s third game of her Op KIPION 17 deployment saw them pitted against Muscat RFC, a side established in 1971 by a group of rugby mad expats. Limited in training opportunities, the Black Duke side was keen to show that their time spent in practice was worthwhile and that they were constantly im­proving. A number of key players were missing from the starting line due to injuries and duty personnel but nothing was going to faze the 15 selected. Kick off got underway with Monmouth receiving. Jamie Campbell-Baldwin caught up with Aidan Riley, the newly appointed Assistant Director of Rugby for the U23s’ side.  He has taken up the mantle from Rob O’Kane who was instrumental in supporting the U23s’ Training Support Group (TSG) as they successfully defended their Inter Services’ trophy after a thrilling season against top-class age group and fully matured sides.
