It seems an age ago since Jamie Philips held aloft the Interservice Cup at Keller Hall on 9th May 2015.  Following some good wins against HM Prison Service, Taunton RFC and Torpoint RFC and coming close against typically strong teams including Havant and Torbay Sharks, the Mariners performed when they needed to; defeating the RAF Vultures 39-15 and then settling the Interservice decider against the Army Masters, beating them 20-15. Royal Marines Regain Inverdale Challenge Cup With Powerful Display

Despite the wind and rain, the Fleet Air Arm and the Royal Marines produced a fitting finale to the 2015/16 Inverdale Challenge.  In the end it was the all-round fluidity of the Royal Marines game, controlled by their halfbacks Glastonbury and Cadywould that laid the foundations for a 28-12 victory by four tries to two.  With the two sides having won the trophy for the last eleven years the Royal Marines now edge the recent series 6-5 in what remains the fiercest of Inter Region rivalries. Ady Cherrington receives RNRU President’s Commendation

Mr Ady Cherrington, the RNRU Rugby Development Officer, was presented with an RNRU President’s Commendation at the RNRU Members Clubs Annual General Meeting held at HMS Temeraire on 10 December 2015 by RNRU President, Vice Admiral Sir Philip Jones KCB. A New Year, a New Grey Away Kit and New Leadership on the field for the Royal Navy Rugby Union(Women)’s team.  Lt Charlotte ‘Freddie’ Fredrickson (PJHQ, Northwood) has been appointed as the RNRU(W) Captain for the 2016 season and will be ably assisted by POET(WE) Sarah ‘Jenks’ Jenkins (HMS KENT) as the Vice Captain.  The new appointments come ahead of the start of what will be a busy and demanding season for the ladies with their first match against Ivel RFC on 27 January 2016.
