SEAHAWK IN SEVENTH HEAVEN

HMS SEAHAWK won a pulsating final of the RN 7's defeating HMS Ark Royal at HMS Raleigh. Teams from across the Naval Service descended on a quiet corner of Cornwall to battle it out for the honour of being the 7's champions for the 2008-09 season. Pool A consisted of HMS Raleigh, a team made up entirely of Phase 2 Trainees, RM Poole, HMS CHATHAM and eventual winners HMS Seahawk. Seahawk dominated the group with RM Poole progressed to the Quarter Finals leaving HMS Raleigh to narrowly miss out on qualifying for the quarter finals as the best 3rd placed team from the Pool stage. Pool B consisted of HMS Heron, Neptune, LIVERPOOL, ARK Royal and BRNC. A closely fought group with ARK Royal Powering their way through as Pool winners and HMS Liverpool as runners up. BRNC Found themselves in the quarter finals by virtue of a healthier points tally. Pool C saw MWS, HMS Drake, MONTROSE, NORTHUMBERLAND and ALBION fight for the remaining Quarter Finals places. Drake dominated the league, Montrose progressed as runners up and Northumberland secured the final berth as the best 3rd placed team. Over the quarter and semi finals there was some outstanding rugby played; the tournament typified the fighting spirit of the men of the Royal Navy with no quarter given by any one player, it was true 'blood, sweat and tears' rugby HMS SEAHAWK led by LPT Jamie Caruana, and HMS ARK ROYAL, coached by Lt Cdr Neil Mathieson, played some outstanding rugby, the futures bright for the Navy Sharks when these players are unleashed on the 7's circuit. AB Silivenusi Buinamasi, HMS Seahawk Captain, hoisted aloft the trophy adding to the silverware already won this season. The Royal Navy would like to thank the Officials for ensuring a safe and enjoyable tournament and especially LPT Marc Dowling for co-ordinating and hosting the event.
