NATO LIONS MAINTAIN WINNING STREAK 47-0

Carney Park 18th December, NATO Lions walked out in Carney Park on Sunday wanting to maintain their winning streak as they played local Italian team Portici. The first 15 minutes saw the teams in lock a down as the Lions fought hard to absorb the constant barrage of Portici attacks. Lions look unsettled and found it hard to gain control. However, a strong run by winger, Pat Kramer supported by No 8 Craig “Bugsy” Moran managed to break the deadlock with Moran making a breakaway run from the half way line to score under the posts which was then converted by the sure footed Martin John. The Lions defence was constantly tested as Portici maintained the pressure and demonstrated their disciplined rucking ability. As the game moved into the second half the Lions tempo increased and slowly their old form started to sparkle. The Lions went on to score from a penalty move as Hooker, Razz Razzmussen scored a magnificent solo try as he carved his way to the try line. Lions Power House Rhino Dilone, in what was his final game, demonstrated his unstoppable power as he crashed through the Portici defence to increase the Lions lead. Further Lions trys came from Dick Calhaem, Craig Farrington and Shane Murphy. Despite the strong wind Martin John converted 6 out of the 7 tries to make the final score 47-0. “Whilst conceding points against them, Portici never conceded defeat and despite several magnificent efforts they were not rewarded with a try. They played a strong and fluid game with real determination.” said Lions Captain, Ryan Turnhill. The Lions would like to wish their supporters a peaceful and prosperous New Year and look forward to seeing you at their next game, which is schedule for 14th January 2006.
