England ground out a 7-5 win over world champions Samoa to reach the semi-finals of the rugby sevens tournament in Delhi on Tuesday. England trailed to Alatasi Tupou's early try but responded by taking the lead before the interval when Royal Navy flanker Greg Barden finished off a penalty move and skipper Ben Gollings converted. England , silver medallists four years ago, controlled the second half to book a semi final date with three-time gold medallists New Zealand at 1430 local time (1000BST). HMS Liverpool Vs HMS Sultan - Navy Cup 1st Round

more

Since losing in the semi-final of the Navy Cup last year, HMS Liverpool has been unbeaten on the recent deployment to America during Op Auriga. The last year has seen the squad strengthen throughout and with crushing scores over HMS Daring and MWS Collingwood since returning to the UK; the ‘Red Rooster' is now a team taken seriously as challengers for the Navy Cup.   The draw in the first round was HMS Sultan, a mighty team which has been regular finalists in the competition. The game was played at HMS Temeraire on a clear evening under floodlights and got off to a bad start for the boys in red. Early pressure and fantastic kick returns from HMS Sultan's back three made sure...
