Sharks and Stingrays Face Off at Sultan

The temperature is rising and the ground is getting firmer and it can mean only one thing! Sevens season is upon us!

The two Men’s Royal Navy Rugby Union Sevens sides, the Sharks and the Stingrays, have been taking part in a 5 week training camp at Fort Blockhouse to prepare them for their three scheduled tournaments this summer. The sides faced off against each other on the 9th of June on a dry HMS Sultan pitch in a heated match where the coaches were able to assess some of their newer players in a game scenario. The final score was closely guarded secret by the coaching team.

The sides kick off their season with their first ever appearance in a GB7s Super Series event at Aldershot Garrison on 26th of June. The GB7s Super Series is an elite UK competition where the top teams from around the country compete in a series league; the RN teams have been invited into the competition as part of the Armed Forces Day celebration.

With 2 weeks to go until the competition the RN teams are looking in good form. They will continue their tournament schedule with outings at the Welsh Super Series Events in Cardiff and Carmarthen on the 17th and 31st of July respectively.
