Following on from the excitement of winning the Inter Service Championship at Twickenham last Saturday, the Royal Navy Rugby Union switches its attention to the start of the Sevens' season.  The RN Sevens team, the Sharks, will step onto the pitch to take part in the Greene King IPA 7s open tournament at Bury St Edmunds this Sunday 8 May.

This season the team will be jointly managed by LAET Guy Pallett and LCIS Nathan 'Pony' Moore.  Guy has had an active rugby season, captaining the veterans' team in every match since January.  Unfortunately he sustained an injury during the first Inter Service match against the RAF in April and subsequently missed out on the chance to play in the final match against the Army Masters at Kneller Hall.  He has a vast amount of rugby experience and is looking forward to a busy Sevens season.  Pony, who is currently based at HMS Collingwood, explained the philosophy of the Sharks, "Our aim is to develop new talent.  Sevens is a very different game from 15-a-side, much faster paced and it is a great opportunity to practice tackling and ball-handling skills."

Another familiar RNRU face, LogsSC Silivenusi Buinimasi, first capped for the Senior XV in 2007 and now with a total of 12 caps, takes the Head Coach role, ably supported by Logs Manoa Satala, a very experienced Sevens player who featured strongly in last season's team.

A full fixture list has been arranged starting this weekend at Bury St Edmunds RUFU.  Gates open at 0930 and tickets cost £15 per adult, £5 for U16s and U5s go free.  For more details go to www.bserufu.co.uk  Other competitions will include the Slough Sevens competition 9 July and the defence of their title at the North Dorset Sevens competition on 23 July.  For a full fixture list click here
