The 2018 Royal Navy Rugby Union Annual 7s competition will take place at Yeovil RFC on Wednesday 6 June 2018.  All ships, units and establishments are encouraged to organise a team to take part in the event which is one of the highlights of the Navy Rugby summer season.

Alongside the Men's 7s competition a Women's 6 a side touch rugby tournament will be running, open to all females, with or without previous rugby experience.  The aim of the day is to get as many sailors and marines as possible playing the shorter, faster form of rugby.

Last year over 250 players took part, along with the Royal Navy Rugby Union Referees Society referees and all was organised by the RNRU Community Rugby Coaches.  12 men's team and 6 women's teams took part on the day.  The teams from the West Country ended up the victors with the winners of the Men's tournament the players from HMS Seahawk in Cornwall while the winning females were from HMS Ocean, the Devonport based helicopter carrier.  Perhaps 2018 will be the year for the Portsmouth based teams?

Participants already confirmed include men's teams from HMS Kent, HMS Neptune, HMS Sultan, HMS Diamond and the University Royal Naval Units.  Two Women's teams have signed up from HMS Diamond and from the University Royal Naval Units.  So if you fancy your chances, or are looking for an alternative to sitting in the office, or working onboard on a Wednesday afternoon, get together with your friends and colleagues and enter a team.  The closing date for entries is Friday 1 June.  For more information, follow this link to the administration order including the rules, or email Dave Wakefield, the Community Rugby Coach for the Easter Region who is the lead for the event rnru-crc-e@hotmail.com
