Super 7s Series Round 2

Plate Runners Up

Royal Navy Sharks

GB Super Series - 7s

The Royal Navy Men's Sevens side, The Navy Sharks, headed to London Irish at Sunbury-on-Thames today for the second round of the 'WowHydrate' Super 7s Series UK this weekend, hoping to build on their last performance in Newbury.

The series pits the best sevens teams from the UK against each other with a smattering of international opposition.

The Sharks were up against the Wooden Spoon Marauders in their first pool match and despite scoring 3 tries were pipped 22-19.

Knowing that they would likely need a win to progress to the Cup quarter finals the Navy gave their everything in the second pool match. Unfortunately they were up against the Hong Kong national side who were in great form and won 29-7. Hong Kong went on to beat the Army and win the tournament.

The third pool match against the Stunts would decide if they played in the 2nd tier Plate or 3rd Tier Bowl. Two tough opening matches had disguised the Navy's good form and the Sharks dominated the match winning 38-12.

The Plate semi final took place late in the afternoon and Nigeria Stallions were the opposition. The men in green and white didn't offer the same challenge the Navy had faced in the morning and the RN progressed to the Plate final with the National team of China the opposition.

Although not a country renowned for it's rugby prowess China still managed to cobble together a good team out of it's 1.4 billion population and the Navy could break down the great defensive wall of the China 7s side and had to settle for 2nd place in the Plate.

Although it was one place lower than their last outing the Navy's 7s side continues to go from strength to strength as it tests itself against better opposition every outing.

The third round of the series takes on the 11th of June and the Navy will be traveling to Stafford for their next test! Tickets are on sale now at the Super 7s Series website.
