The first match of the 2018 Inverdale Challenge competition was an impressive win for the home side, the Royal Marines, who beat the team from Royal Navy North 43 - 7. The Royal Marines always field a strong team, but especially so when playing at Lympstone.

However the team from north of the border should not be too disappointed. It is to their credit that they managed to get sufficient players to travel to contend the match, especially at this busy time of year. The other match played this week, between the Fleet Air Arm and the Royal Navy Eastern team at Yeovil RFC saw the defending champions notch up a win, FAA 26 - 5 RN East. In the second round RN North will travel to Portsmouth to play RN East at HMS Temeraire kick off 1600 and RN West play their first match of the completion at The Rectory, Devonport Services RFC, against the Fleet Air Arm, with a mid-afternoon kick off at 1430. Spectators are welcome so come along on 7 November to cheer on your local team.
