Sam Matavesi lays Wreath on behalf of RNRU at Franklin's Garden War Memorial

Rugby may be the purpose and passion of the Royal Navy Rugby Union but we remember that we are free to enjoy it because of the ultimate sacrifice made by those that have gone before us.

As the only Premiership rugby club to have a War Memorial incorporated within their ground Northampton Saints are always reminded about their former players that left home and never returned from the field of battle. And so it is fitting that the Royal Navy, Northampton Saints and Fijian International hooker, Sam Matavesi, laid a wreath on behalf of the Royal Navy Rugby Union at Franklin's Garden recently. As a current Serviceman Sam was well placed to recognise and undertstand the magnitude of the sacrifice given by Northampton Saints of old, in addition to so many Royal Navy men and women as well as from both the other Services.

We will remember them.
