Navy Rugby Chairman's Christmas Message

As Christmas fast approaches, we enter the festive period having achieved a significant amount in a short space of time. The U23s had a hugely successful Inter Services winning the competition outright while beating the Army by a record margin along the way. We’ve seen a number of players selected for their national teams both in Sevens and XVs and we celebrate the 6 Navy Players who represented UKAF (W) in New Zealand.

We’ve also seen Ships, Establishments and Commands take the field notably with HMS ALBION taking on Tunisia u20s and Montenegro President’s XV during her deployment. Additionally, at the recent Navy Sports Awards, we saw three exceptional members of the Navy Rugby family recognised for their individual endeavours.

I just want to take a moment to wish everyone well at this festive time of year and also to say a few words of thanks. This extends to the volunteers who lead our coaching and management teams, our hugely reliable and dedicated Committee; our Vice-Presidents, our Trustees, our generous sponsors, our new kit provider and of course our supporters. All of whom have continued to support us through the recent difficult years.

Most importantly, I wanted to thank you, the players for representing the Royal Navy. This is a proud Union with a great history and I hope you enjoy being part of it.

Have a great Christmas; enjoy the rest and in 2023 let’s bring as many trophies as possible back to Burnaby Road.

Chairman Royal Navy Rugby Union, Rear Admiral Steve Moorhouse CBE RN
