Navy Rugby Sponsors Hosted at Mounbatten House Reception

The Royal Navy Rugby Union was delighted to welcome sponsors, industry partners, three life members and invited guests to the 2026 Summer Reception, hosted at Mountbatten House on 14 July. Following an excellent turnout and with glorious sunshine throughout the evening, the event provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on another successful season and strengthen the valued relationships that continue to support Service rugby.
The guests gathered at Mountbatten House for an evening of networking, hospitality and celebration. The beautiful weather allowed everyone to enjoy the stunning surroundings while reconnecting with friends, colleagues and members of the wider Navy Rugby family.
We were also pleased to welcome three of our Royal Navy Rugby Union Life Members who had reached significant milestones over the past year and who have made notable contributions to the success of the Union and the 2025-26 season. Their commitment and service to Navy Rugby continue to inspire current and future generations.
Among them was David Hambrook, accompanied by his wife Denise, who this year marked 60 years since earning his first cap for the Royal Navy in 1966. Dave went on to represent the Senior Service 16 times, was part of the Inter Services Championship-winning teams of 1966 and 1974. He played in the last Royal Navy side to secure back-to-back Inter Services titles before this year's squad matched the achievement.
We were equally pleased to welcome Chris Alcock, who represented the Senior Service for over a decade after earning his first cap in the early 1980s and continues to support the Union through initiatives such as the Life Member tailgates, and Chris Roberts, whose Navy playing career spanned more than 12 years and who remains a valued supporter through his assistance with Army Navy accommodation and transport logistics.
A highlight of the evening was an address from RNRU President, Vice Admiral Steve Moorhouse CBE, who reflected on the achievements of the season, thanked our sponsors and supporters for their continued commitment, and recognised the efforts of those who give so much to the game across the Royal Navy. His remarks set the perfect tone before guests enjoyed a superb barbecue prepared by the Mountbatten House team.
The Royal Navy Rugby Union extends its sincere thanks to all those who attended and contributed to such a successful event. We look forward to building on these relationships and continuing to develop opportunities for collaboration both on and off the field in the seasons ahead.
