RNRU Women’s Development Squad - Assistant Director of Rugby

The Royal Navy Rugby Union (RNRU) is seeking a suitably experienced candidate to fill the newly established post of Assistant Director of Rugby for the RNRU Women’s Development Squad (RNRU (WD). This is a voluntary role and the successful candidate would ideally commit for a period of 2-3 years.
The RNRU is a Constituent Body (CB) of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and a registered charity. It is charged with the management, administration, and development of the game of Rugby Union within the RN, in accordance with Service regulations and traditions. It also must comply with the requirements of the RFU and regulatory framework for charities.

RNRU Women’s Development Squad - Assistant Director of Rugby The role and responsibilities:
- Lead the RNRU(WD) Training Support Group (coaching team and team management) and playing squad.
- Manage all Personnel issues within nominated Development Squad area.
- Liaise with Commanding Officers and Line Managers as required and where appropriate to secure Development Squad fixtures and training camps.
- Formally approve all financial expenditure made against the RNRU(WD) allocated budget on receipt of letter of financial delegation from Director of Community Rugby.
- Represent nominated Development Squad area at routine scheduled RNRU termly Community Meetings.
- Maintain outputs of team iaw the RNRU playing and development strategy.
- In close dialogue with DoCR, develop and maintain a 3-year strategy to cover all aspects of Women’s Development Squad area.
- Direct, manage, develop and mentor the RNRU(WD) Training Support Group.
- Liaise with the RNRU(W) S&C coach for all Strength and Conditioning requirements as required.
- Oversee all nominated Development Squad Selection.
- Oversee fixture planning for the RN Women Development Squad.
- Ensure there is a clear focus on the continued development of players from grass roots level to representative standard.
- Drive recruitment and retention of new and experienced players within the Development Squad.
- Investigate initiatives that will increase player participation to facilitate rugby 365.
- Responsible to the Director of Community Rugby for the delivery of Squad outputs.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will have a blend of the following qualifications, experience, skills and personal attributes:
- A background and passion for rugby is essential.
- Able to commit to Navy Rugby for a period of at least 2-3 years, and capable of supporting the RNRU through successful performance of the role of Assistant Director of Rugby for Women’s Development.
- Knowledge of the sporting landscape within the Royal Navy is an advantage as will be an experience of working with or in a sports club, preferably in a rugby environment.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
- A serving member of the RN (including RM) or the RNR/ RMR.
- Committed and loyal; someone who demonstrates the values of the RNRU.
- A passion to develop new rugby talent within the RNRU.
