New Head Coach Announced for RNRU Senior Women’s XV
Written by J Campbell-Baldwin

Navy Rugby is delighted to announce the appointment of Jez Parsons as the new Head Coach for the Senior Women’s team. Jez takes on the role with immense pride, describing it as "a huge honour" and a "privilege" that he accepts with a deep sense of responsibility.
In his first statement as Head Coach, Jez expressed his excitement for the challenge ahead, acknowledging the high standards set by those who have come before him. "The foundations for this team have been laid impeccably over the past few years by the players, support staff, and previous management," he said. "Their dedication has built a platform of which the entire Naval Service can be proud. Thank you for your legacy; it is one I intend to respect and build upon."
While paying tribute to the past, Jez made it clear that his focus is firmly on the future. With a young and talented squad at his disposal boasting numerous accolades from the recent IDRC competition, he is eager to push the team to new heights. "It was fantastic to see so many of our players representing the UKAF team this year. That is a clear marker of our potential," he noted. "It will be a key priority of this coaching team to develop that raw talent, to ensure even more of our players are ready to seize that opportunity and perform at that higher level."
Jez outlined his vision for the team, setting three clear objectives:
Compete at the Highest Level:
"We will build a side that can compete with the RAF and the Army on a much more consistent and competitive level," Jez stated. "We will prepare to meet those historic rivals not just with passion, but with a structured, intelligent, and relentless game plan."
Professionalism in All Aspects:
Jez emphasised the importance of professionalism both on and off the pitch. "We will implement a stern, professional standard in every aspect of the Senior side—from our conduct off the pitch, to our analysis in the classroom, to our execution on the training field. We will demand excellence of ourselves because that is what we are working towards."
Developing Elite Athletes:
Jez is committed to creating an environment that challenges and supports players, helping them grow not just as rugby players but as elite athletes. "My message to every player in the changing room: we will provide an environment that challenges you, supports you, and develops you not just as rugby players, but as the elite athletes you are capable of being."
The new Head Coach acknowledged the hard work and commitment required to achieve these goals, calling for a united effort from players, coaches, and the entire RNRU community. "This journey will require hard work, commitment, and a united effort. I cannot wait to get started. The work begins now. Thank you for your trust. Up the Navy!"
RNRU Director of Rugby, Tom Blackburn expressed his confidence in Jez’s appointment, saying, "Jez shares the same passion for developing the Women’s team and brings a vision of professionalism and growth. I believe he will be able to build a team of players and coaches to fight and win, and I look forward to working with him as Head Coach."
The Royal Navy Rugby Union congratulates Jez on his appointment and looks forward to an exciting new chapter for the Women’s team under his leadership.
