HMS Seahawk

HMNB Devonport and HMS Seahawk produced an entertaining and highly competitive Navy Cup Round 1 fixture at The Rectory, with both sides contributing to an excellent advert for Service rugby.

HMNB(D) made a strong start to proceedings, playing with confidence and intensity to establish an early lead. Their attacking play created opportunities across the park, allowing them to get points on the board quickly and put HMS Seahawk under pressure.

To their credit, HMS Seahawk responded well and gradually grew into the contest. As the first half progressed, they found their rhythm with ball in hand and began converting possession into points. The momentum shifted several times throughout a closely fought opening period, with both teams showing attacking intent and determination in defence. At the interval, there was little to separate the sides, with HMNB(D) holding a narrow 21–19 advantage.

The second half continued in much the same vein, with both teams competing fiercely and neither side willing to give ground. HMNB(D) continued to challenge strongly and managed to create a further advantage as the game entered its final stages.

However, HMS Seahawk demonstrated impressive resilience and depth, digging deep when it mattered most. A series of well-worked tries in the latter stages of the match enabled them to take control of the scoreboard and ultimately secure a 52–35 victory.

Despite the result, the fixture was a tremendous occasion for HMNB(D) Rugby. The match marked the team's first rugby fixture in over a year, making it a significant moment for rugby participation at HMNB Devonport. The commitment, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit displayed by both teams contributed to an outstanding afternoon of Navy Cup rugby.

The match was played in excellent spirit throughout, with players, officials, and spectators all contributing to a positive and enjoyable event. HMNB(D) can take great pride in representing the Base and will look to build on this performance as rugby activity continues to develop.

Final Score: HMNB(D) 35 – 52 HMS Seahawk
