RNRU Academy Assistant Coach Position – Backs & Fwds Position Available 

The Royal Navy Rugby Union (RNRU) is seeking a suitably experienced candidate to fill the post of assistant coach for the RNRU Men’s Academy. This is a voluntary role and the successful candidate would ideally commit for a period of 2-3 years with an immediate start date.  

The Academy is the pinnacle of the Community area and provides an opportunity for players to showcase their skills in order to be considered for selection into the Snr Men’s XV. The Academy season runs from Nov – Mar, ending the season with fixtures against the RAF Academy and Army Academy. As a coach, you will work closely with the Snr XV coaching team to deliver the same vision. This role will form a critical pathway for those wishing to be considered for the Representative area in the future. 

Primary Roles and Responsibilities 

The Assistant Coach will be required to support the Head Coach in the following:  

  1. Provide pre-planned training sessions prior to training camps. 

  1. Responsible for delivering game analysis after each fixture. 

  1. Responsible for all coaching skills and patterns of play. 

  1. Engagement with players to enable and encourage individual development from grass roots level through to the representative standard. 

  1. Provide structured player feedback after each fixture and throughout the season.  

  1. Lead training sessions as directed by the Head Coach. 

  1. Specific match day responsibilities including team selection.  

  1. Responsible to the Assistant Director of Rugby for all activity. 

  1. Continue with own Continuous Personal Development outside of RN Rugby. 

Personal Specification 

ShapeCandidates must be able to evidence coaching experience, this includes evidence of a RFU L2 Coaching Award (replaced by England Rugby Coaching Award in 21), or have a clear pathway in which to achieve this, noting course dates are limited throughout the season. The successful candidate must be serving in the Royal Navy or Royal Marines with at least 2 years’ service remaining from commencing the role. 

 


RNRU Academy Team Manager Position 

The Royal Navy Rugby Union (RNRU) is seeking a suitably experienced candidate to fill the post of Team Manager for the RNRU Men’s Academy. This is a voluntary role, and the successful candidate would ideally commit for a period of 2-3 years with a handover period of Dec – Feb, taking up position fully in Feb 23. 

The Academy is the pinnacle of the Community area and provides an opportunity for players to showcase their skills to be considered for selection into the Snr Men’s XV. The Academy season runs from Nov – Mar, ending the season with fixtures against the RAF Academy and Army Academy. 

Primary Roles and Responsibilities 

The Team Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Academy XV off-field management including, but not limited to: 

  1. Responsible for all administration of the Academy XV for pre-season and in season logistics and planning. 

  1. The day-to-day management of the squad and TSG on behalf of the Assistant Director of Rugby (ADoR). 

  1. Provide GLAD (Guidance, Leadership and Direction) throughout the season for the squad and TSG. 

  1. Work in conjunction with the ADoR and Head Coach for squad selection where appropriate. 

  1. Manage player and TSG availability for all fixtures and training camps.   

  1. Responsible for opposition and officials’ confirmations for each fixture. 

  1. Responsible for informing the Director of Community Rugby (DoCR), ADoR, Officials and any pre-booked catering arrangements in the event of a fixture cancellation. 

  1. In association with the ADoR, manage the allocated budget within the budgetary constraints as directed by the Director of Community Rugby. 

  1. Manage and co-ordinate all off-field matters, including team logistics for feeding pre and post-match, accommodation, training facilities and fixture locations. 

  1. Produce and control the distribution of Administration Orders, ensuring all references are updated iaw relevant policies. 

  1. In conjunction with the ADoR and Head Coach, produce a relevant and experience level appropriate fixture list.  

  1. Responsible for accounting for and managing all training and playing kit, including laundry arrangements post-match. 

  1. Tasks as directed by the ADoR. 

Personal Specification 

Candidates must be able to evidence strong managerial and leadership experience, not necessarily of a rugby nature although this would be preferred.  The successful candidate must be serving in the Royal Navy or Royal Marines with at least 2 years’ service remaining from commencing the role.
