Grab Your Whistle! Refereeing Opportunities

Tri-Service Rugby Referee Training

The game of rugby is reliant on so many groups of people. Players, coaches, club members and groundsman to name but a few. Games also require the man/women in the middle – the referee. Refereeing offers a fantastic way for you to stay involved in the game of rugby. It allows you stay actively involved and offers the best view of a game.

There are many great reasons to take up rugby refereeing:

  1. You stay involved in the game
  2. The feel good factor of giving something back to the game
  3. You stay fit – both mentally and physically
  4. You can be an inspiration to the next generation of players and match officials
  5. You can develop a range of skills that will help you personally and professionally

Referee societies up and down the country do not have the same number of referees prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. County societies, along with the military societies, are required to cover games of all levels week after week. Opportunities to develop and progress as a referee are available for those wishing to do so.

A Tri-Service effort is being made this year to train new referees. Courses are being held across RN, RAF and Army establishments, with it being very much an open door policy – attend the course that suits you. Course dates are as follows:

  • 6 – 7 Dec 2021 at HMS Temeraire
  • Jan 2022 Dates TBC at RAF Halton
  • 14 – 15 Feb 2022 at Aldershot
