Aaron Determined to Regain His Shirt
Mne Aaron Moon, who has previously represented the Navy U23s at fly half, begins his journey along the road of rehabilitation when he joins Headley Court next week with one clear goal; to once more play in the famous Navy Blue shirt. The young marine is lucky to be alive after the Viking he was in took a direct blast from an IED during his recent tour of duty in Afghanistan. Having sustained multiple injuries and following initial emergency care in theatre and then intensive care at Selly Oak, Aaron is now looking to rebuild his life and Royal Marine career. It quickly becomes evident when talking to Aaron what a determined young man he is and it is humbling listening to him recount his experiences and talk about his hopes for the future. In many ways he embodies all the values that the Corps, the Naval Service and Navy Rugby stands for. The DoR presented Aaron with a signed shirt from the current Navy Rugby Senior XV and the U23 Team Manager, WO John White, took him some extra ‘stash’ to ensure that he can wear his true colours whilst at Headley Court, particularly as his arrival coincides with the Inter Service tournament. Certainly if the Navy players needed further inspiration as they finalise their preparations then the example set by Aaron would provide it. All those involved with Navy Rugby wish Aaron the very best with his rehabilitation and hopefully will be able to provide two wins to help lift his spirits and of course we all look forward to the day when he gets a rugby ball back in his hands.
