HMS Seahawk Weymouth Beach Rugby Festival

HMS Seahawk arrived at this year’s RN Festival of Rugby in Weymouth fresh and ready for a tough day after narrowly losing in last year’s final to HMS Sultan. They started the event in style with HMS Kent first up in the pool stages. Some well worked tries from John Fellowell and James Wilson Seahawk lead to a straight forward victory, winning 8-0.

After barely a moment to draw breath they headed into their next game against HMS Hurworth; Seahawk were in full flow, some good interplay from Danny Lowe allowed John Lamsin to score a brace of tries. The try of the game went to Ben Lenderyou with his fast feet standing up the opposition creating space which allowed him to score in the corner - final score 9-1.

After a well earned rest, next up were 539 AGRM, a tough side with a good defence, they were hard to break down but Ryan Cox and Harry Hastie linked up to start the scoring, 539 AGRM managed to get back into the game scoring tries in quick succession before half time with the score 4-3. Then Seahawk upped the tempo with team manager Chris Cinderford making the changes with fresh legs relieving tired bodies - final score 7-4.

With the group stages complete Seahawk were drawn against HMS Heron, this was by far the toughest game, with Fleet Air Arm players up against each other; this made it a low scoring game with defences standing strong! Tries from James Wilson and Danny Lowe ensured Seahawk were winners with the final score 2-1.

The semi-final for Seahawk would be their last outing with fatigue setting in they were undone by the fitter 30Cdo ‘A’ side, tries from Guy Pallett were not enough to see them through to the final losing 2-3. 30Cdo ‘A’ side were the eventual winners of this years RN Festival of Rugby beating HMS Raleigh 5-4.
