HMS Illustrious

Wednesday 19th saw HMS Dragon’s new team run out against Illustrious’ long-running pack at HMS Temeraire. From the kick off it was a physical game with HMS Dragon quickly proving their dominance in the scrum that would remain throughout the game; however this did not help prevent Lusty from running in their first try after 20 minutes, yet within minutes Dragon put points on the board through Officer Cadet Ben Massey’s penalty.

The first half was a consistent story of Lusty’s physicality and heavier pack being matched by Dragon’s speed and tackling with little giving in each side, however prior to the break Lusty managed to put another 5 points on the board with the score at half time reading 10-3 to Lusty. Within minutes of the players coming back on Dragon reduced the deficit, quick hands from the scrum half and rapid movement from the backs saw FC1 Ally Taylor run in Dragon’s first try of the game. However as the game wore on it became clear that Lusty’s experience together would win them the match as Dragon’s new team found their places on the pitch, with Lusty squeezing in another four tries in the final twenty minutes of the game.

A physical game and a first for Dragon’s promising new side ended 37-8 to the veterans of Lusty.
