ROYAL MARINES NAME SQUAD FOR THE FOURTH CHARITY MEDICS RUGBY CHALLENGE

On Tuesday 6 Nov the fourth Medics Rugby Challenge will kick-off, this has become an annual event in support of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, which exists to maintain the efficiency and 'esprit de corps' of the Royal Marines and to provide benevolence support for those in need.

The first match in 2009 was a draw. The Medics clinched a narrow but well deserved victory in 2010. Last year, when 3 Commando Brigade had just returned from Afghanistan, the Medics were put to the sword. Over 2000 supporters were treated to a game of rugby that was well contested until the final 20 minutes when the size and fitness of the Royal Marines took its toll. With a score of 10 - 0 at half time, the Medics' defence was tested to the full at the beginning of the second half but tries were fast and furious in the last quarter of the game.

The evening will start with a youth match between Devonport Services and Ivybridge Under 16s (5.30pm). This will be followed with a display by the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines (6.50pm). With 40 Commando presently deployed in Afghanistan a minutes silence, in memory of those who have given their lives in the service of their country, will precede the Medics Rugby Challenge (7.30pm).
