RNRU NAMES NEW HEAD COACH FOR THE 2012/13 SEASON

The Royal Navy Rugby Union has named a new head coach to lead them into the 2012/13 Season. POAET (Owen) Salmon (845 Sqn), who is presently deployed, will take over from CPO (Ash) Coates (HMNB Portsmouth) upon his return.

RNRU Director of Rugby, Cdr (Andy) Kellett RN said of Ash Coates "Ash has been Head Coach for 2 years and Senior XV Technical Analyst prior to that. His ability to highlight the key aspects of a team's performance was honed during the time he spent working as a game analyst with Premiership Clubs. This has had a positive affect on players as individuals and the team performance as a whole".

Andy went on to say "Ash is stepping aside due to work commitments. His job as Executive Officer of Blazer will mean he will be deployed during the build up to Inter-Services and would not be available for some key games, including Irish Defence Forces, Marine Nationale and the RAF. I am sure this is not the last we have seen of him but his professional job must take priority and we wish him the best of luck in his new appointment."

Of the appointment of Owen, Andy said: "Owen has been ever present in Navy Rugby being involved at many levels - Base (RNAS Yeovilton), Naval Air Command, Royal Navy U23s and Senior XV. I feel the appointment of Owen as the RN Senior XV Head Coach is justly deserved as he is a determined, professional and dedicated coach".
