RNRMC – Charity Of The Day For Army v Navy 2015

The Royal Navy Rugby Union has great pleasure and is privileged to announce the selection of the official charity for the 2015 Army Navy fixture will be The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

This fantastic organisation that improves the lives of all Naval Service personnel who serve past and present and their families, will benefit enormously from this affiliation and we urge you all to support them not only on the 9 May 2015 but throughout 2015 and beyond.

Fundraising Co-ordinator at The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, Hilary Jukes said: “We are pleased to have been chosen Charity of the Day for the Army v Navy 2015 rugby game. It will be an exciting year with the Rugby World Cup hosted in England and Wales later in September/October so we expect a lot of support, particularly from the rugby community.”

She added: “The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity is launching in January its ‘Road to Twickenham’ campaign. This is one of our favourite campaigns and we are keen to see everyone get involved.”

For the uninitiated, the challenge encourages anyone – no matter their level of fitness – to traverse the equivalent distance of their workplace, ship, unit, or even gym club, to Twickenham Stadium, TW2 7BA, before the big game on 9 May, and raise funds for The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity while doing it.

Hillary said: “Last year our servicemen and women were really creative, climbing ropes and taking on ‘reverse jailbreaks’ to make up their miles. This year we’d love to see the same initiative – and also see more entries from non-serving personnel. Royal Naval friends, families, ex-serving personnel and local businesses are equally welcome to join in, have fun, get fit and raise cash in the process.”

About the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity:

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity is the principal and chosen charity of the Royal Navy. Last year it gave £7.2m to people most in need: serving personnel, veterans and families. For those in uniform – in ships, squadrons, submarines, commando units and ashore – it boosts morale, improves facilities and eases the pressure that life in the Service can bring.

Through their grant giving to other military charities they provide crucial support for parents and children as well as veterans experiencing difficulty with ill health, old age or hard times.
