The Royal Navy Rugby Union is delighted to announce the launch of a new initiative - Women's Rugby Development. With Women's Rugby attracting more and more players every week and quickly becoming the fastest growing Women's Sport in the UK the RNRU are keen to get a piece of the action! So this season a new Women's Rugby coaching programme has been developed by the RNRU Rugby Development Officer, Ady Cherrington, and RNRU Women's Team Manager, Jane West (Jane.west549@mod.uk)

The coaching programme is designed for absolute beginners, returning players and experienced players alike. The weekly sessions will take place at regional hubs - in Plymouth, Yeovilton and the Portsmouth area, with the same sessions being delivered in each venue in order to ensure that those travelling between bases or attending courses can attend the full programme wherever they are. The training will be delivered by the Community Rugby Coaches in the East and the West, Dave Wakefield and Spider Kelly, with assistance from other RNRU/RFU trained coaches.

RNRU Women's XV players have volunteered to be the regional player/managers to co-ordinate local players and be the point of contact for any questions or queries. If you are in the West Country then Sam Alderson is your lead (aldersons198@mod.uk), near Yeovilton then contact Emily Park (parke750@mod.uk) and in the Portsmouth area Lauren Salisbury is the person to speak with (lozsalisbury@outlook.com).

In addition to these regular coaching sessions, the RNRU have entered a team to play in the Army Women's Corps League. This will enable players to get the opportunity to put their new or refreshed skills into practice in a fun, friendly environment. Each side entered in the league is only permitted to play 5 capped players so this allows developing players the chance to improve their game in a less-intense, properly supervised match. The Army League matches are scheduled as detailed on the fixtures page.

So if you are interested in taking up a new sport, making new friends or just fancy a bit of fitness training and/or something different, contact the player/manager for your region and come along to the next coaching session on Wednesday. We look forward to seeing you there.
