HMS ST ALBANS LADIES V Q8 SCORPIONS WOMENS

HMS ST ALBANS Rugby Team arrived in Ahmadi to play on what could only be described as a sand pit. Needless to say the Ladies and Gents strapped on there boots and kit, and prepared to warm up for the games ahead. The first fixture was the Ladies but due to numbers they played 7's. The Ladies team comprised of players with a variety of playing experience.

From the start the ladies attacked the Scorpions and a good offload by AB Macdonald to LPT Marshall saw her make in-roads into the Scorpions half. The ball was retained and MA Bernard moved the ball down the line to AB Laird Craig on the wing, unfortunately ST ALBANS turn the ball over. The Scorpions however not to be out done showed there experience which allowed there Scrum Half to score there first unconverted try (5-0)

St Albans from the restart attacked the Scorpions through LPT Marshall, MA Bernard and supported by AB Macdonald. This effective trio was to equal the score line for St Albans (5-5)

As the whistle sounded for half time, water and ice was dispatched from the sidelines. The team got together to discuss the tactics for the 2nd half.

From the kick-off St Albans took the game to the Scorpions, good work at the break-down saw St Albans make some good ground. However, a lapse of concentration allowed the Scorpions to intercept a pass and score under the post for a converted try (12-5)

This didn't faze St Albans ladies and they again step up there game. This saw them produce some great lines of running, passing and superb tackles. A special mention should be made of MA Bernard who managed to intercept there hooker, tackle her to the ground and turn over a Scorpion ball. Final Score 12-5

After the match a presentation of shirts by the team captain (LPT Marshall) a ships Wooden Crest and team shirt was handed to the Scorpions team Captain. In exchange shirts were given to all the girls and a signed Rugby ball.

To round of a great afternoon of Women's Rugby out hosts laid on an Indian buffet and copious amounts of soft drinks.

All the Girls enjoyed themselves AB Laird Craig quoted ‘It has opened up my eyes to the sport and I was surprised how much fun it actually was'    Overall a fine afternoon of Women's Rugby and great hospitality was enjoyed by all.
